As you may already know, we ARE located in the Path of Totality! We will have fun events before the eclipse and offer some eclipse-viewing glasses to give away. The libraries will be CLOSED on April 8, 2024.
How is it safe to view a total solar eclipse?
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun and thereby obscures the view of the Sun from a small part of the Earth, in totality. We are offering some programs that will create pinhole or indirect viewers but to view the total solar eclipse directly and safely, you will need to have American Astronomical Society-approved safe viewing glasses.
TMCPL and our branch in Pleasant Hill will offer limited eclipse glasses to attendees of the programs listed below.
► Beginning April 1, 2024, we will provide 2 pairs of eclipse glasses per adult at the Troy-Miami County Public Library and Oakes-Beitman Library in Pleasant Hill. Only available while supplies last.
