How Do I Get a Card?
Apply for a library card in person or online at any library location and you can have access to all of our locations, including the bookmobile and the Maker Lab. You will also have access to all Dayton Metro Library locations and Bradford Public Library through our reciprocal borrowing agreement.
Signing Up
Stop by any location to sign up for a library card. There is no minimum age. You may also sign up online for an e-card. Ecards can become full-service cards when you visit the library in person. Any Ohio resident is eligible for a library card.
Classroom cards
The library strives to provide educators with extended access to educational library materials. We will issue special cards to educational organizations, schools, teachers, homeschool parents, and leaders or staff of youth organizations. Teacher cards have a six-week checkout period, and items do not renew. The item checkout limit is 99. Apply in person at any location or email Sarah (troy) or Kell (Oakes - Pleasant Hill) for information.
Cards for minors
A parent may apply for a library card on behalf of their minor child. The parent must provide standard proof of identification. If the child is with the parent, no additional identification for the child is needed. If the child is not with the parent, proof of the child's existence is required, such as a birth certificate, a health or human services card, or a school ID.
A parent or legal guardian may apply for a card for a minor child in their care. The guardian's signature indicates acceptance of financial responsibility for all items borrowed. Documentation of the guardian arrangement is not required and may be changed by a parent or legal guardian. The guardian is required to maintain a current PIN number to personally review and manage the items on the child's record. The Ohio Revised Code limits the release of information regarding a child's account to a parent or legal guardian. An adult signing for a child's card without such documentation must use a PIN to manage the account online without staff assistance.
If a child's parents are divorced or separated, any parent may sign for the child's card, although it is recommended that the parent with primary custody sign for the card. The Library has no way of verifying a custody arrangement and holds the signing parent responsible.
What to bring
On your first visit, bring a photo ID with your current address. If your photo ID does not have your current address, you will also need to bring a second document as proof of address, such as a recent utility bill or bank statement.
Parents and guardians can show a photo ID and proof of address on behalf of minor children. The library has a special “My First Library Card” featuring the library mascot currently available.
If you cannot show proof of address during your library visit, we will provide you with a provisional card with a three item limit.
Library Card Issues
Please notify the library if your card is lost or stolen to prevent unauthorized use of your card. You are responsible for all charges made to your account until the card is reported lost or stolen. If you get a notice that your card has expired or needs attention, please call the circulation department at (937)339-0502 ext. 110.
