LIBRARY NEWS Troy-Miami County Public Library & Branches Imagination Library Update Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is a free book program for children up to age 5. The program has been ongoing for all of Miami County for 11 years and has been statewide since 2019. There are 4,394 children enrolled in the program in Miami County. Last year bilingual English/Spanish books were added and books in braille are also available. The cost per child is free for enrolled families, but is funded through a partnership model rather than Dolly herself personally financing the program. The Dolly Parton Foundation manages the infrastructure, book selection, and program logistics. Local program partnership, like Troy-Miami County Public Library, pay for the cost of books and mailing. Partners raise funds to enroll children in specific areas (like Miami County). In Miami County, the program has ongoing support from our major funder the UVMC Community Benefit Fund as well as the Miami County United Way. Because millions of books are ordered, they are secured at a discounted rate, making it more affordable for local partners. The cost per child is about $30/month. The Friends of the Library have generously assisted the Outreach department in several areas in the past year. They financed the purchase of 75 new tote bags, which are used for teacher collections and home delivery collections. These bags replaced our very old and dwindling supply. The Friends also financed the purchase of approximately 350 books for our book bike. These books will be given away at book bike stops, including several Cherry Street Farmers Markets, the Juneteenth Celebration and random stops at the local parks. With both the tote bags and books we are able to deliver books to the old and young and spread literacy joy! Outreach Services - On the Go! Digital Downloads Did you know? Digital Content Gaps Remember to check out our digital collection! Libby is the perfect option to access our free e-books, audiobooks, and magazines! A common question at the library is why some books are limited to certain formats. For example, Libby only offers Frieda McFadden's books in audiobooks but not e-book. This is a limitation enforced by the publisher and unfortunately not something we can purchase at the current time. We absolutely understand how frustrating this can be! Libby does offer a notify me option for titles that aren't currently in our catalog. If you are searching for a title or a format that isn't showing available for check-out or to place a hold, you can select the notify me option. This anonymously shares your interest in the title with your library, and if the title if purchased, you will be automatically notified! Dig into Local History

Fall Fun with Youth & Teen Services The Calm Corner - from our Library Social Worker DIY Lunar Rocks When astronauts go to the moon, they sometimes bring back lunar (moon) rocks for scientists to study. Some of these rocks are about 4.5 billion years old, and they teach us all about the moon. We learn things like what kind of weather the moon has, the environment, and when the moon was formed. You can see lunar rocks at many museums across the country. Or, you can make your very own lunar rocks at home! You will need: • 4 cups baking soda • ¼ cup water • Glitter • Black or brown food coloring Step 1: In a bowl, combine your baking soda and glitter. Stir well. Step 2:In anotherl bowl, combine your food coloring and water. Step 3: Add your water and food coloring mix to the baking soda. Step 4:Mold your mixture into “rocks” of any size using your hands. Not Quite Dead Yet centers on Jet Mason, a 27-year-old who lives life at a laid-back pace, until everything changes on Halloween night. After a brutal attack leaves her with a terminal brain injury, time is suddenly running out, she sets out to uncover the identity of her attacker. This gripping thriller is a must-read for Holly Jackson fans of any age. The ticking clock adds intense suspense, and the ending kept me guessing until the very last page. So if you're a thriller lover, don’t miss it! Stop by any of our branches to find it on the shelf or place a hold today.
