Troy-Miami County Public Library is excited to share that we have upgraded to a brand‑new software system. This system helps us manage library materials, checkouts, holds, and other services. This change gives you access to libraries across Ohio, reduces costs, and gives us greater local control over our services. Access the New Catalog
Thank you for your patience as we finish verifying data and smooth out any issues. We appreciate your kindness.
What you need to know:
- All patrons will need a Troy-Miami County Public Library Card to borrow, place holds on TMCPL materials, and access all library resources, including the Maker Lab.
Your PIN/password will default to the last four digits of the phone number on file for your account in our new system. You can change your PIN/password online or by visiting any library location.
SearchOhio is expected to return in early November. This resource provides free access to public and academic libraries across Ohio.
Here are some frequently asked questions about the new catalog. If you do not find the answer to your question here, please reach out to library staff for assistance.
Why did the Library change the catalog?
Aspen Discovery offers a more user-friendly, modern browsing experience that makes it even easier to find the materials you want. It also offers personalization features and search tools designed to help you discover more of what TMCPL has to offer.

Can I access my account and personalize my catalog experience?
Yes. When you log in, you can view your current checkouts and holds, including items ready for pickup. You can also see the holds you’ve placed in Libby.
Please note: Your username is your Troy-Miami County Public Library Card number. Your current PIN/Password could not be moved to the new system. Your new PIN/Password will be the last four digits of the phone number on your library account. You can change your PIN anytime through your online account at catalog.tmcpl.org or by calling any TMCPL location.
From your account, you can save your checkout history, create new lists, and track the status of items you’ve requested the library to purchase.
In Account Settings, you can manage your contact information and preferences, choose how you receive messages and notices, link additional accounts, and reset your PIN. You can also select your preferred and alternate pickup locations for your holds.
Can I save my search results and create lists?
Yes. You can save searches and create public or private lists from your user account profile. You can also share lists with other users, such as members of your book club. You can also save a search term and receive notifications when new items matching that search are added to the library.
To receive notifications for a saved search, log in to your account and go to Account Settings. Select Preferences, then scroll to the section labeled “Searching.” Turn on “Notify me by email when new titles are added to my saved searches.”
How do I track my reading history?
If you enabled Reading History in our previous catalog, you can still access it. Log in to your account and click on Reading History from the drop-down under your username. If you did not previously, choose Start Recording My Reading History. From then on, you'll be able to see what you have checked out from the library. You may start or stop using it, as well as delete any or all entries in your history at any time. To protect your privacy, the library does not track your history, so you must opt in. Watch this short video to learn more about turning your reading history on or off.
What is a "Grouped Work"?
Aspen features grouped results when you search. This means the catalog displays all formats the library owns- book, large print, audiobook, ebook, or eaudio- together under a common title. You can then check out or place holds on all items, including the digital titles, directly from the Aspen catalog.
Can I see my physical and digital checkouts together?
Yes. After logging in to your account, you can view your checkouts, holds, and statuses for physical items alongside digital titles from Libby and Hoopla.
Can I get text message alerts about my library account?
Yes. You can choose to receive text message notifications when a hold is ready for pickup.
Can I choose which messages I receive and how I receive them?
Yes. You can change which messages you receive and how you get them (text or email) by logging in to your account and choosing Messaging Settings under Account Settings. You can also elect not to receive messages.
Can I use the Aspen Catalog on my phone?
The Library's new catalog is mobile-responsive, so you can use it on your computer, phone, or other mobile device, and it will automatically resize for comfortable viewing.
How do I place a hold?
Click the Hold button next to any item in your search results list, log in with your library card if prompted, and select your preferred pickup location. Watch this short video to learn more about placing holds.
Does Aspen give reading recommendations?
Yes. Once you have rated a few titles in the Aspen catalog, you will start to see personalized recommendations based on what you enjoyed. To rate titles, log in to your account and click the star rating under the book cover for the title you want to rate. Five stars is the highest rating. Aspen will also suggest "while you wait" titles when you place a hold based on your ratings, so the more you rate, the better your results will be. To view the titles you have rated, click your name to access your account, then choose Recommended For You. From here, you can remove or change your ratings.
How can I pay any fees that are on my account?
You can view fees on your account by logging in and clicking Fees. All library locations accept cash or check, and you can pay by credit card in Aspen.
Please note: You will be charged for books that are 21 days overdue, as they are considered lost items. If you return those books, the fees will be removed as long as the books are in good condition.
Can I link my family's accounts?
Yes. You can link your account to another account holder, such as your minor children. Linking accounts requires the other account holder to accept the link, and either party can revoke it at any time. By linking the accounts, you can manage the other patron's account with your login. To set this up, log in to your account and go to Account Settings. Click Linked Accounts, then Add an Account. You will be prompted to enter the other patron's account credentials. To complete the process, the other patron must log in to their account and accept the link.
