Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the IT Manager, the IT Support Technician will be responsible for ensuring that library staff can use software and hardware to complete their daily tasks. Duties include being a point of contact for all IT related questions at the user level, responding to user needs in a timely manner, and ensuring the optimal running of all systems, among other duties.
Essential Duties:
- Providing support to users and being the first point of contact for problem resolution.
- Troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues.
- Assisting library staff with problems and responds to questions concerning microcomputer hardware and software.
- Repairing or replacing damaged computer hardware.
- Managing technical documentation.
- Assisting with maintenance of IT inventory.
- Keeping accurate and detailed descriptions of services performed.
- Installing software, hardware, and peripheral equipment including printers and scanners.
- Assisting with upgrades to microcomputer and hardware and software.
- Preparing new PCs for deployment.
- Performing system and server shutdown and reboot in accordance with established procedures as set forth by the IT Manager.
- Collecting any pertinent backup media and securing them on-site and off-site.
- Conducting onboarding and continuous technical training for library staff on the use of email, the library website, library intranet site, and other technical resources.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of computer operations and systems hardware/software.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret instruction manuals and policy and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from end users.
- Knowledge of available and emerging technologies and their application to library services.
- Knowledge of Windows operating system, applications and utilities.
- Knowledge of information and telecommunications technologies, local/wide area
networks, Internet, PC based applications and PC security. - Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
- Ability to develop collaborative relationships with library staff, administrators, trustees, and vendors.
- Ability to communicate effectively in meetings, presentations, and training
environments.
Education & Preferred Experience:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in Information Technology, Computer Science; or 2+ years experience in IT support and system maintenance.
- Experience working in a public library setting preferred.
Working Environment and Physical Requirements:
The work environment is typical of such climate controlled places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences. Requires common safe workplace practices while operating office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and correct lifting technique
- Ability to operate standard office equipment.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Requires regular participation and attendance at events and trainings.
- Requires ability to travel to off-site locations.
