Unearth a Story – Summer Reading Challenge 2026
A summer of discovery, imagination, and adventure is HERE at Troy-Miami County Public Library
From June 1 through August 1, readers of all ages are invited to take part in Unearth a Story, our annual Summer Reading Program. Whether you’re a child just beginning your reading journey, a teen exploring new interests, or an adult looking for your next great read, this program is designed for you. Dive into great books, take on our reading challenge, and experience a full season of programs that inspire curiosity and creativity.
We’re kicking things off in a big way with a special visit from the Columbus Zoo in the park—an exciting event you won’t want to miss. And that’s just the beginning. Throughout the summer, we’ll host a variety of unforgettable programs featuring guest presenters such as Ranger Vic, Dino Buddies, Chris Rowlands, and Food Fun with Katie Blauser of Eat Pretty Darling. Alongside these special events, you can also enjoy your favorite library offerings, including story times, book clubs, and hands-on DIY crafts. From interactive learning experiences to engaging performances, there’s something for everyone. Details will be available on our Events calendar.
The Summer Reading Challenge is open to all ages, allowing participants to track their reading and earn chances to win fun prizes along the way. Pre-registration is available now on Beanstack, making it easy to set your reading goals early and start planning your summer. Read or choose from suggested literacy activities and complete them as many times as you’d like—each one earns you a badge, and your goal is to reach 30 badges at your own pace. This challenge can be as easy or as challenging as you choose, so take your time and do your best. Visit Beanstack on your favorite device to get started!
If you prefer to register in person, sign-ups will be available beginning June 1 at the Troy Main Branch, the Oakes-Beitman Memorial Library in Pleasant Hill, and aboard the Troy Bookmobile.
As an added bonus, everyone who registers by June 30 will be entered for a chance to win tickets to Kings Island—just one more reason to join the fun. Whether you’re discovering a new favorite author, attending exciting programs, or simply spending quality time with family and friends, the library is your destination for summer fun.
Beginning July 1, bring your completed reading log to TMCPL or any branch—or finish your challenge on Beanstack! Every youth participant who completes the challenge will receive a reward.
Prize Week is July 27–31 • Stop by to pick up your reward!
Finish the challenge, and you’ll also be entered for a chance to win one of our amazing grand prizes:
- Young’s Dairy Family Fun Passport
- COSI Tickets
- Columbus Zoo Tickets
- Great Wolf Lodge Gift Card
- Grandpa Joe’s $100 Gift Card
- Hero Day Tickets
